Tuesday February 28th
WAFFLES! Kaitlin and I were desperate for waffles, and by some magic Kaitlin’s friend sent her a waffle maker. REJOICE. Also, the ice cream truck made another appearance, and every time we see it it’s as awkward as the first time. The truck-song is jarring and uncomfortable… like an abandoned jack-in the-box from a dystopian desert shack.
Wednesday March 1st! In the spirit of spring being on the horizon, I decided I was in need of a haircut. Here’s the before and after.

I went to Mesart Hair Studio, which is actually right around the corner from my flat. I walked there and back in my boot. Nice and sunny, thank god. Meg and I decided to enjoy the sunshine and go for a walk along the river. 🙂

Nothing is as delightful as the extended hours of sun. Getting out of class and into the light is SUCH a good thing.
Thursday March 2nd, International Book day and treats at Montgomery’s! Here are some photos of the inside of our book store, featuring some of my favourite classics.
I’m absolutely loving Mongomery’s, it’s so nice to have tea and treats at a café on the regular. I got the citron tart and Beatrice got the chocolate and pistachio tart, Kate just smirked at us as we stuffed ourselves.
Friday March 3rd was the LAST Research Training Seminar. It was about our Dissertations, and thus infinitely more helpful than any preceding session. The most useful activity we did was mind-mapping… something I enjoy, but haven’t been doing on a large scale because I haven’t wanted to buy LARGE drafting paper. Anyway, it helped me flesh out my idea, and it was SO MICE to hear the ideas of my cohort members. I love being surrounded by people who are happy to trade book recs, opinions, and advice.
We had a group-study day, which obviously ended with food! Ingrid, Beatrice and I went out for tapas style Italian.
THE LOCAL NEWSWORTHY EVENT:
Wednesday March 8th was Fantasy Movie Day, and we watched CRONOS!
Thursday March 9th, International Women’s Day. Two of my cohort mates have IWD birthdays! Snapchat’s homage to IWD was to create filters that do your make-up, whilst including some clip-art relevant to one of three women; Rosa Parks, Frida Kahlo, and Marie Curie. Do with that as you will.
Thursday afternoon MY NEW HARRY POTTER SET ARRIVED. LOOK, LOOK HOW PRETTY THE COVERS ARE, IT’S LIKE HAVING A BEAUTIFUL NEW CHILD THAT WON’T SHIT ALL OVER YOU.
THEY’RE SO BEAUTIFUL, OH MY GOD.
Thursday night was OLLIE’S BOOK LAUNCH! Let me just say, I am so proud/honoured to be working alongside my cohortmates. Ollie launched his second book, Metronome, and his Glasgow launch (following his London launch) included an interview by Ruth Booth (also an esteemed author and cohortmate) as well as several readings from the book AND a chance to see large scale prints of the stunning illustrations. EVERYTHING was cool, and I am just generally in awe.
So you’ve seen Ollie and Ruth, so below, please enjoy the pictures below. From left to right, Ruth, Ollie, Ollie’s illustrator, and Rob Maslen.
I’ve toned the gushing WAY down because I really was so enthusiastic it just went on ad nauseam.
On Saturday the 11th Beatrice, Kaitlin, and I went to HOCKEY! We went to a home game at the Braehead Clan Arena, and even though we lost it was a blast. Our colours are purple and black, and the Steeler’s colours are orange and navy.
3,338 attendees tonight, with plenty of empty seats
and finally the ‘anthem’
In the video below, they’re saying” … see your like again, That fought and died for…” at the end of the first line and start of the second.
Only just past halfway into the first period and one of the Steelers players was ejected from the game for kneeing one of our clansmen. Mike Hammond went DOWN, and it looked like un upper leg injury.
First intermission, VERY ODD two on two street shoes ball. Anyway, Red won.
Start of the second period
End of the second period, we ALMOST got a fight. It would’ve been smarter to save that for the third period, but everyone was feeling feisty. By the end of the second period it was 2-1 Steelers.
The puck had a chunk missing.
We ended up going through four pucks I think. The one above and two others ended up in the stands during periods 2 and 3.
Chuck a puck during the second intermissionThird period Steelers scored again, and the clan couldn’t answer past a 2-3 finish. What we all hoped was an equalising goal in the last 15 seconds turned out to be a no goal ’cause the puck was stuck in the outside of the nets, which made the nets move and look like it was in.
Upcoming: Monday March 13th is my 19th harp birthday/anniversary! I’m peer reviewing for the publication eSharp, last two weeks of classes, and actual WRITING of essays. KIM AND CHELSEA ARRIVE IN 19 DAYS, HOW COOL IS THAT?!?!
